Updated: 4 days ago

Moratorium on evictions could remain in effect until January 1, 2022 while utility shutoff moratorium ends July 1, 2021 but with grace period in place

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has ordered an end to the state’s public health emergency. Although this puts an end to the majority of the governor’s pandemic executive orders, it does maintain several impacting renters, homeowners, and landlords.

A moratorium on evictions could remain in place until January 1, 2022 while the moratorium on utility shutoffs expires July 1, 2021. However, there is a grace period through December 31st, 2021 to give customers the time they need to enroll in payment assistance plans. No one should face disconnection of gas, electric, or water services before the end of the grace period.
